Why I Left Salesforce to Pursue Freelance Marketing Automation

Why did I leave my comfy, cozy role at Salesforce as a Solution Engineer and dive headfirst into the wild world of Marketing Automation Freelancing world?

Well, grab your favorite beverage and settle in, because I'm about to break it all down for you.

Let's rewind a bit to where my journey started. I was working as a Solution Engineer at Salesforce, which was my dream company. I mean, who wouldn't want to work there, right? I was living the dream, soaking up every opportunity like a sponge. Five mentors? Check. Leadership program? Signed up on day one. I threw myself into every project, and even became a mentor to new hires.

But despite all the amazing things happening at Salesforce, there was this nagging feeling in the back of my mind. It was like a little voice whispering, "Hey, what about that thing you really love? You know, marketing automation?" Yeah, that thing.

I tried to ignore it at first, thinking I could just keep juggling all my responsibilities. But eventually, it became clear that I needed to make a change. I wanted to focus on marketing automation full-time, but it just wasn't possible in my current role.

So, I did what any sane person would do ā€“ I started networking. I reached out to people in the marketing department, hoping to find a way to transition into their team. But, as luck would have it, there were some organizational changes happening, and my plans got put on hold.

Fast forward to 2023, and I hit a wall. Burnout city, population: me. It was like all the stress and pressure finally caught up with me, and I couldn't keep going at the same pace. It was a wake-up call, to say the least.

After taking some time off to recharge, I realized that I needed to make some serious changes in my life. I couldn't go back to the way things were, and that included my career. So, I did what scared me the most ā€“ I left Salesforce.

Leaving was one of the hardest decisions I've ever made.

I mean, I had invested so much time and energy into that company, and I was leaving behind colleagues, mentors, and a network that I cherished.

But sometimes, you have to do what's best for you, even if it means leaving something behind.

After leaving Salesforce, I spent months soul-searching. I asked myself tough questions like.

"What do I really enjoy?"

"What kind of lifestyle do I want?"

And you know what?

The answer was staring me right in the face ā€“ marketing automation.

I had always been drawn to marketing automation, and now was my chance to pursue it full-time.

So, I started building my website, built a killer portfolio, and started reaching out to potential clients.

And you know what?

Itā€™s been one heck of a ride.

Sure, there have been moments of doubt and uncertainty.

It was scary to leave the safety net of a corporate job but seeing my dreams slowly take shape makes it all worth it.

I'm finally doing what I love, on my own terms.

So, if you're feeling stuck or burnt out in your current role, don't be afraid to make a change.

Listen to that little voice inside of you.

It might just be the best decision you ever make.

Trust me, I know from experience. And who knows, you might surprise yourself along the way.
